Nephrite Jade and Sterling Silver Bracelet with Owl Charm

I have used round etched dark green Nephrite Jade beads along with two barrel-shaped carved lighter green beads to create this beautiful bracelet. The Jade beads are complemented by round hand-made sterling silver beads patterned with circles, and this all reminded me of the eyes of an owl. So I finished the bracelet with a sterling silver charm of an owl sitting on a branch.

The name Jade is derived from the Spanish term for ‘loin stone’ ‘Piedra de ijada’ and the Latin ‘kidney stone’ or ‘Lapis Nephritis’ as Central Americans associated the stone with curing loin or kidney ailments. Nephrite is one of the two minerals in the Jade family. It is very tough and durable ranging in color from white to green to brown. It has a long history particularly in China and other parts of the Orient for making weapons, tools, decorative carvings and jewelry. It has a special significance to people of many cultures; in China is it a symbol of all that is good, embodying the Confucian virtues of wisdom, justice and courage. It is also highly regarded in Central America (Mayans) and New Zealand (Maoris).

Length: 7 inches. Guide to sizing Bracelets: Using a measuring tape, measure snugly (not too tight) around the wrist just below the wrist bone. Add 3/4th to 1 inch to the measurement to determine the bracelet length. This is the length given above.

Beading Wire: 0.19"/49 strand clear-coated stainless steel professional quality beading wire with sterling silver crimps, crimp covers and wire guards.

Bead size: 15 mm (about 5/8") round Jade; 3 and 10 mm sterling silver; 11 x 15 mm (about 3/8 x 5/8") barrels.

Clasp: Sterling silver oval shaped toggle with bow for extra safety around your wrist.

Care: Clean with soft fabric, or non-abrasive polishing cloth. Avoid direct contact with perfumes, hairspray, and deodorants. Jewelry should be worn after application of cosmetics. Store wrapped in soft fabric or sealed in plastic bag.
