Beautiful Porcelain ~ Flexible Layaways!
From the early 19th century, most dinner sets included a drainer, which was flat and had a hole in the center, with smaller holes all around it. This drainer would fit inside a large serving dish and would have been used when serving fish, to drain the juices.
It is very rare to find a platter with its original drainer- don’t miss the opportunity to acquire this beautiful set!
The platter is 21 ¼ inches in length, 10 ¾ inches wide and 1 ¾ inches tall; and the drainer is 18 ¼ inches long and 7 3/8 inches wide.
Both pieces are marked with the Powell, Bishop and Stonier printed mark (circa 1878-1891) and the firm’s “Oriental Ivory” trademark, as well as “Song Birds” indicating the pattern name. There is also a registry mark, RD No. 6744, indicating a manufacture date of 1884.
Condition is very good to excellent, slightest wear.
