Special edition collector's plate from Arizona's Petrified Forest made by Edwin M. Knowles in 1947, before the area became a National Park. Design and accents are painted of 24K gold, which is ironic considering the thousands of pounds of petrified wood taken from the area as if it were gold. "Old Faithful", depicted on the plate, is the largest petrified wood specimen of the Rainbow Forest is actually tree trunk chunk measuring 9-1/2 feet! The ivory plate measures 8-1/4". Marked with the Knowles "Semi Vitreous" vase mark and date code "47-3" as well as "Warranted 24K Gold" mark on underside. Very good condition, with only minor rub wear to the gold.
