Beautiful 24" German Antique Doll -- Karl Hartmann

Antique Karl Hartmann Germany doll--1885-1905. She has a mold number 30 on the back of her head and incised initials which appear to be a large "H" with a curling tail, and a small "o" inside of the bottom half of the "H".

She is 24" tall. Bisque head, composition body, fully ball jointed. She has dark brown sleep eyes with red tear ducts, a slightly opened mouth with 4 rounded upper teeth, and a cute dimpled chin. She has an original mohair wig with locks of curls that are pinned back from her face with two very old hair pins.

The back of her head has a couple of cracks and small chips, as you can see in one of the photos. There is also some glue residue from where her wig had once been glued on. The finish on her composition body is patchy in areas. There are some chips along the edges of the armhole and neck openings. Her face has some slight cheek rubs, and her sleep eyes are stiff and do not close on their own.

Her clothing is very old. Her long-sleeved dress is aged and very delicate. The front of her bodice has a lovely embroidered eyelet yoke; while the back is embellished with six vertical rows of pintucks. Complimenting her full, gathered skirt is a wide floral lace trim. Her dress is missing its top buttonhole, and there is hand stitching over a worn area to form a patch.

Her handmade undergarments consist of bloomers and a half slip. Both of these were lovingly made from a sugar sack cloth. I have turned them inside-out for the photo to show the company's printing, which reads "25 LBS NET HAVEMEYERS & ELDER STANDARD FINE H & E EAGLE BRAND GRANULATED SUGAR MFD. BY AM. SUG.REF. CO."

Her bloomers have a very pretty hand-stitched eyelet design on the shoulders, which looks like a honeycomb pattern. The leg openings are finished with an embroidered eyelet trim with a zig zag edge. There are also pretty embroidered flowers on the trim.

Her half slip is gathered at the waist. It has a bottom border of five horizontal rows of pintucks, and the edge is finished with dainty, embroidered eyelet trim.

Her socks and shoes have been replaced. The socks are being held up with rubber bands.
