Outstanding post-Impressionist portrait of a golden-haired youth by French artist, Lucien Boulier (1882-1963). Studied: studios of Jean Leon Gerome. Boulier was admitted to exhibit at the highly regarded "salon de la Societe des beaux-Arts" as well as the more avant-garde Salons "d'Automne" and "des Independants" from 1919 to 1932. Exhibits: First personal exhibition at the Galerie Charpentier in Paris, 1923; Galerie Wildenstein, New York, 1924. This c.1930 oil on canvas measures 8 5/8 x 10 5/8 inches. Measures 21 x 23 inches framed. Restretched at a later date: there is an original pattern of exposed tack holes apparent along sides. Lovely white silk matting makes a gorgeous presentation. Boulier made women the focus of his work, of which this piece is a top-notch example. Layers of transparent glazes are built up to create extremely warm and luxurious lighting effects. Signed lower right. Excellent condition with no restoration. No cleaning required.
