Like many people, I've had a lifelong interest in the fabled lost continent of Atlantis. My Sea Goddess and Sea Priestess lines were inspired by Dion Fortune's celebrated novel "The Sea Priestess," about a modern reincarnated priestess of Atlantis whose clothing and jewelry reflect her devotion to the sea.

This is a pattern I have offered for about 10 years, and it has been quite widely imitated - and the copies often sell at twice this price! The cascade earrings show the graduating hues of the sea in a tropical or Mediterranean shoreline. From the bottom, the full-round faceted 9mm. briolettes of iolite (also called the 'water sapphire') suggest the farthest reaches of the blue ocean. Above them are 4.5mm. faceted iolite rondelles, 4mm. faceted kyanite rondelles (kyanite, which is Greek for 'blue', is a deep cobalt blue with hints of green and a silvery shimmer); 4 mm. faceted deep teal apatite rondelles; 4mm. faceted light teal apatite rondelles; 4mm. faceted aquamarine rondelles. It is very difficult to pick up the full blue-green of aquamarine when a deeper color stone is present; they are far richer in color in person.

All are worked to sterling silver rolo chain with sterling silver jewelry wire and pins.They hang from sterling silver posts, accented with a filigree flower pattern. They measure 2.5" total, and 2 & 1/8" without the posts.

Kyanite, with its aluminum silicate content, has an indescribably beautiful silvery sheen that can only be appreciated in person. It really does look like the glittering surface of a calm blue sea. The gemstones and colors, with the silver metal, are all designed to give a delightful sparkling sea effect. The lush cascade of gemstones completely covers the silver chain.

Feel like an ancient Goddess of the Sea, inspired by the most ancient of all legends. Some Lady of fabled Atlantis might have worn earrings much like this, looking out on a sea of aquamarine and sapphire blue from her marble balcony.
