It is one of the most enduring love stories in Western literature, that of Tristan and Isolde. Set in the time of Arthur's Britain, Isolde is the daughter of the Queen of Tara, sent to Cornwall to marry its King, but falls in love with his nephew Tristan. The story was the basis of countless romances during the Medieval times.

I've crafted these petite earrings to match my Isolde Connemara Marble Medieval Necklaces, also on Ruby Lane, though they are very lovely on their own. Isolde might have brought earrings like this with her from Tara, as only an Irish princess would have worn this marble. Rare and lovely Connemara marble is found only in the west of Ireland, and is also known as the Irish national gemstone. It is becoming increasingly hard to find. These soft misty green beads are hand-drilled, and the color always reminds me of the green moss over weathered stone that I saw on ancient structures throughout the British Isles.

The earrings feature Celtic pendants of sterling 22kt. vermeil, with 6mm. & 4mm. beads of Connemara marble in the center and bottom. The top bead is 6mm. translucent green garnet, also known as 'demantoid' or 'grossular' garnet. This is the solar equal-armed cross that was sacred to the ancient Druids, and later to Medieval knights.

The earrings hang from 22kt. vermeil French wires and include rubber stoppers for security. They measure 1 & 7/8" without the wires and are very lightweight.

During the Medieval times, when gold was reserved for royalty and the Church, most women wore vermeil jewelry, known as 'silver-gilt.' Using them in my Medieval reproduction pieces makes them even more authentic.

Perfect for Renaissance or Celtic Faires, it is also a distinctly Irish Medieval pair of earrings for everyday wear. Wear it with a simple long dress and feel like one of the most legendary heroines of European romance!
