The 22kt. sterling vermeil earring pendants are crafted in the shape of Medieval cathedral windows. These graceful earrings feature teardrop briolettes of very fine quality Chinese turquoise (almost certainly stabilized) in 10mm. briolettes. These are not the usual blue-green found in most Chinese turquoise, but a bright robin's-egg blue with dark brown matrix lines. All are worked in 14kt. gold-fill jewelry wire and accented with faceted 14kt. gold-fill beads. The center small bead is faceted 4mm. turquoise.
They hang from 22kt. sterling vermeil French wires, and include rubber stoppers for security. They measure 1 & 7/8" without the wires, for women who love this look but prefer their earrings a bit shorter.
During the Middle Ages, gold was so expensive that it was reserved for royalty and the Church, and most Medieval noblewomen and wealthy ladies wore sterling vermeil. Vermeil was known as 'silver-gilt' to Medieval jewelers. Using it in my Medieval reproductions makes them even more authentic.
The Medieval connectors and French wires are sterling vermeil; all other metals (jewelry wires and faceted beads) are 14kt. gold-filled. All turquoises are genuine.
The retail value of these earrings in a good historical jewelry catalogue would be approximately $125. A knight's lady would have worn them proudly.
