The collar was inspired by an image from the late Zoe Oldenbourg's celebrated novel of Medieval France. In "The Cornerstone," a knight watches a noble lady of the 12th century place her valuable amethyst and silver collar on an altar as an offering.
The necklace features very Medieval-looking silver filigree connectors, set with bevelled amethyst hearts. (bevelled means that it is faceted at the edges, like antique mirrors used to be.) The center deep amethyst connectors are also bevelled. I couldn't resist adding a heart charm of deep purple crystal. All hang from sterling chain, and the necklace measures 17.5" around the neck. I can add a small extender if you wish.
The matching earrings are oval bevelled amethysts in beaded sterling frames. They hang from extra-long sterling French hooks, and include rubber stoppers for security. they measure 3/8" long without the hooks.
Amethyst was a very popular and well-loved gemstone during the Middle Ages, symbolizing truth and clear vision.
The retail value of this set in a good historical jewelry catalogue would be approximately $150.
All metals used are sterling silver, and all amethysts are genuine.
