One of my favorite authors is the talented Louise Erdrich, whose novels of Native American life in the modern world have all been highly acclaimed. My favorite of her novels is "Love Medicine," for whom this series of jewelry is named. All the pieces in this series are crafted with gemstones that are associated in folklore with love, soothing comfort and renewal.

This is a particularly harmonious blend of shimmering pink Peruvian chalcedony; lusciously rose-pink rhodochrosite; pink Peruvian opal, pink sapphire, rhodolite garnet and naturally pink cultured freshwater pearls: all are associated in gemstone folklore with love, romance and self-esteem.

Rhodochrosite has long been one of my favorite gemstones, and has only recently enjoyed the popularity it has always deserved. Also known as the "Rose of the Incas" because it was sacred in that ancient culture, it is found primarily in Argentina, (and in one good mine in North America.) It has an indescribably luscious rose beauty that can only be appreciated in person. These are 8mm. briolette beads of translucent AAA grade rhodochrosite.

The faceted pink Peruvian opal briolettes are slender faceted 12 mm.; the round beads are 4mm. rhodochrosite and blush-pink cultured freshwater double pearls; the 4mm. rondelles are rose-pink chalcedony and faceted rose quartz; the 4mm. bevelled squares and 12mm. faceted briolettes are deepest pink rhodolite garnet. The 4mm. faceted bicones are rose-pink and pink-opal color Austrian Swarovski crystals. The smooth oval beads are rhodochrosite. There is a puffed granulated 24kt. sterling vermeil heart charm at the bottom.

All are worked on 14kt. gold-fill wire to 24kt. sterling vermeil rolo chain. They hang from 24kt. sterling vermeil secure leverback wires. They measure 2.25" without the wires and are very light on the ear.

These look absolutely spectacular with a black outfit, giving a splash of deep pink and dusty rose at the ears.

All metals are 14kt. gold-fill or 24kt. sterling vermeil, and all gems are genuine.
