These would have been distinctly Irish Medieval earrings indeed, as the gemstone is rare and lovely Connemara marble. This marble is found only in the west of Ireland, and is also known as the Irish national gemstone. It is becoming increasingly hard to find. These soft misty green beads are hand-drilled, and the color always reminds me of the green moss over weathered stone that I saw on ancient structures throughout the British Isles.
The earrings feature 15mm. cylinder-shaped slender beads of the finest Connemara marble. They hang from sterling vermeil chandelier pendants, in the classic half-round window pattern of late Roman and early Medieval architecture.
They hang from beaded vermeil French wires and measure 1.5" without the wires. The jewelry pins and beads are all done in a granulated beaded style, a specialty of Roman goldsmiths that became popular all over the ancient world.
Perfect for Renaissance or Celtic Faires, these are also a very sumptuous and distinctly Irish Medieval pair of earrings for everyday wear. Wear them with a simple long dress and feel like a fabled Queen of Tara!
All metals are or sterling vermeil, and the Connemara marble is genuine.
