Guinevere is the most enduring heroine in all of European literature. Most historians agree that the Arthurian legend is based on a kernel of truth--and Guinevere must have been quite a remarkable lady for her legend to have lasted for 1500 years. She was the last of the Celtic Queens of Britain before the final Saxon invasions. Her legend lives on to this very day.

The set is distinctly Celtic Medieval and very regal: only a queen would have worn jewelry like this. They feature sterling 24kt. gold vermeil Celtic weave pendants, with a 10 mm.smooth oval bead of genuine Colombian emerald. It is accented with faceted 4mm. emerald rondelles and 24kt. vermeil accents on a vermeil connector. The pendant part measures 1 & 7/8" long. It hangs from 14kt. gold-fill chain, closes with a lobster clasp and measures 17.25" long. In addition, it has a 24kt. vermeil extension chain so you can wear it up to 19.25" long if you wish. The extension chain is finished with a small emerald oval bead.

The matching earrings feature the same Celtic pendants, a bit smaller, with 9mm. smooth emerald oval beads and vermeil accents. They hang from beaded and coiled sterling vermeil French wires. They measure 1 & 1/8" long not including the wires.

Emeralds in their clearest state are wildly expensive, but these translucent-to-opaque emeralds are affordable and genuine. They are a beautiful water-green color, with some black inclusions. They are from Colombia, source of most of the world's good emeralds. Emeralds have been associated with Goddesses since the most ancient times, especially Aphrodite (Goddess of Love and Beauty) and Isis (Protectress of Women).

Sterling vermeil is .925 sterling silver, with a heavy gold overlay. It was widely used during Medieval times, when it was known as "silver-gilt." Gold-fill and vermeil are used in most Museum reproductions of historical jewelry.

The Celtic pendants, accent beads, jewelry pins and earwires are 24kt. sterling vermeil; the chain is 14 kt. gold-fill.
