She is the ancient Hindu Goddess of Love and Beauty, comparable in the West to Aphrodite and Venus. I saw Uma's spirit everywhere in India, in the breathtaking beauty and grace of the lovely Indian women. I've crafted this new pair of earrings for Uma, in genuine rubies--the national gemstone of India, and long a symbol of erotic love and passion in gem folklore--and roses, Uma's sacred flower.

The rubies are genuine, hand-faceted and polished in India, in a deep red opaque shade. In their purest translucent state, rubies are wildly expensive, but these vivid red beauties are genuine and affordable. They are complemented by burgundy and deep-pink rhodolite garnets, also associated with love and passion.

The bottom ruby faceted briolette measures 9X6mm. and is accented with a swirled gold-filled bead. The cascade of gemstones above it are: 5.5mm. faceted ruby rondelles (these have a hint of blue in them); 4mm. faceted ruby rondelles, single and double layered (these are classic red); 4mm. faceted round garnets; 12mm. faceted slender rhodolite garnet briolettes. All are worked on 14k gold-filled wire, or granulated 24kt. vermeil jewelry pins, to gold-filled rolo chain.

The earrings hang from sumptuously lovely vermeil earwires that incorporate a lushly blooming rose pattern. The earrings measure a total of 2 & 7/8" long; 2" not including the rose wires.

These rubies are a deep opaque red, with a luminescence of their surface that can only be appreciated in person. The color is more rich and vivid in person than the scan can show.

All metals used are 14kt. gold-filled or 24 kt. sterling vermeil, as described, and all rubies and garnets are genuine.
