In Medieval literature, the most magical things happen in the Greenwood. In John Keats' immortal poem "La Belle Dame Sans Merci," a Medieval knight meets an enchanted lady in a hidden meadow: I imagine this lovely and very feminine pair of earrings adorning that enchanted Faerie Child.....

These are a classically Medieval version of my La Belle Dame earrings line, with a modern twist: I've used 10mm. teardrop briolettes of hydrothermal quartz, in a luscious deep clear purple color. These hydrothermal quartz briolettes are convex at the back with fine faceting and detailing, so when seen from the front they have a depth and brilliance that is hard to match. I love using hydrothermal quartz in my Medieval reproduction jewelry because the richness of its color is so close to the jewel-tones of Medieval stained glass. Purple was one of the most beloved - and expensive - colors of Medieval clothing and jewelry. Hydrothermal quartz is cultured and lab-grown, not naturally occurring.

They hang from very special 24kt. sterling vermeil French wires, set with an equal-armed Knight's Cross to suggest the Knight whose heart was captured by the enchanted Faerie Lady. These are secure kidney wires that latch in the back. They measure 1 & 5/8" with the Medieval wires and a fraction under 1.25" from the top of the Knight's Cross to the bottom of the briolette. They are very lightweight on the ear. The briolettes are accented with 24kt. vermeil and 14kt. gold-fill beads and worked on 14kt. gold-fill wire.

Sterling vermeil was widely used during Medieval times, when it was known as "silver-gilt," and using it in my Medieval reproductions makes them even more authentic to that period.

Perfect for Renaissance Faires, they also make a simple long dress look very Medieval indeed.

All metals used are 14kt. gold-fill or 24kt. sterling vermeil.
