When the most famous lovers in English literature meet, Romeo's first impression of Juliet is that "she hangs upon the cheek of night like a rich jewel." I've adapted this breathtaking bracelet from actual jewelry worn during the Italian Renaissance where 'Romeo and Juliet' was set. I imagine Lady Juliet wearing this sumptuous bracelet at the Capulets' Ball where she met Romeo.

The last scan is the famous painting by the English Pre-Raphaelite, John William Waterhouse. His portrait of Juliet is often called the "Blue Necklace" in the art world because of the mysterious dark blue necklace she wears.

Perhaps Juliet wore this bracelet to echo the ruby-red of her sleeves and blue necklace: the gemstones are semi-translucent precious rubies, and deep smoky blue iolite (also known as the 'water sapphire'). Deep reds and blues were a popular color combination during this period.

The rubies are 6, 8 and 9mm. faceted thick rondelles, with a smooth oval 8mm. ruby bead accent. The iolites are 5mm. and 10mm. faceted rondelles, and a 9mm. faceted full-round briolette accent. The accent beads are all 24kt. sterling vermeil: the center 10mm. bead is intricately beaded and granulated, in a style that goes all the way back to the ancient Etruscans. The style was highly popular with the ancient Romans, as well as during the Italian Renaissance with its passion for all things classical.

The bracelet measures 6.75" and closes with a vermeil lobster clasp. In addition, it has a vermeil extension chain so you can wear it up to 8" long if you wish. The extension chain is finished with a 6mm. faceted ruby rondelle.

All metals used are 14kt. gold-filled or 24kt. sterling vermeil. All gems are genuine.

The retail value of this bracelet in a good historical jewelry or fine arts Museum catalogue would be approximately $350, but it would not be a one-of-a-kind like this one. Wear it with a simple longish dress and feel like the most celebrated romantic heroine in the English language.
