This porcelain child's feeding dish measures 7" in diameter. It is in good condition with no cracks or repairs. It has one shallow chip just above the letter "H" and a firing pop on the bottom. There is some scratching to the center image consistent with use. The image is of a clown sitting on a stool teaching tricks to his dog. The dish is marked on the bottom with a green stamp of a castle with "Leuchtenburg" above the castle and "Made in Germany" below it. This mark was used by C. A. Lehmann & Son firm located in Kahla, Thuringia, Germany during its operating years from 1895 to 1935. "Leuchtenburg" refers to the castle which still stands above the city. The castle Leuchtenburg, Light Mountains fortress, which belonged to the noble family of Leuchtenburg, was given to the town of Kahla, just north of Rudolstadt, after the feudal wars. This dish was made of hard paste porcelain. The scratches to the center decal suggests the decal was adhered to the dish after the second firing. Many of these dishes were well used due to their heavy non-porous material, allowing children's meals to be served with fear of easy breakage.
