Germany Black Forest Figural Carved Wood Bear Inkwell Pen Holder, c.1890

This hand carved wood bear measures 3" in height. He comes from the Black Forest region of Germany, c.1890. He is in very good condition with no chips to the wood, although there are a couple scuffed areas. The hinge is in good working order. The ink insert inside is in very good condition with no chips or cracks but does have quite a bit of dried ink residue inside. The glass insert is hand blown. The bears extended front paws are intended for a pen holder or rest. He has black glass bead eyes with a painted tongue and teeth.
