The sewing tools used by poor and middle class young seamstresses in the early 19th century were often made in simple undecorated brass or steel. This small brass thread counter measures 1 1/4" square with the magnifying glass 5/8" in diameter. It was made for counting the number of threads in fabric. The glass is powerful enough to see each thread. "Made in Germany" are the only markings. Very well made and still in its original leather pouch. It folds and unfolds easily with very well made springs. It is in very good condition with tarnish the only blemish found.
