There is no makers mark on this doll. He looks very similar to an example pictured on pg. 145 of Nippon Dolls & Playthings by Joan F Van Patten & Linda Lau. Since he is not marked, we cannot conclude he is a Nippon era doll. He measures 3 5/8" tall. He has nicely painted facial features, hair & clothing which are kiln fired onto the doll. His head is slightly turned with side glancing eyes and a closed mouth. Another clue he is of Japanese origins is the flesh tone on his arms is not exactly the same as his body. Arms and legs on Japanese dolls were produced and painted separately from the body of the doll and assembled later, often resulting in flesh tones which don't match. He is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.
