Sterling Silver Handled Stiletto Needlework Tool, c. 1890 - 1910

$195 USD Offers ConsideredSterling Silver Handled Stiletto Needlework Tool, c. 1890 - 1910

Silver:Antique:Needlework Tools
An elaborate sterling silver handle adorns this essential tool for the needlewoman. The stiletto, sometimes called piercers or punches were made in the 18th to the 20th century, although usually much plainer in the later years. They were often used to make a hole in stiff materials, such as canvas, felt or leather to enable the needle to go through more smoothly. With a stiletto, a hole could be made in the fabric without the risk of tearing the material. Approx. 6" in length, it has a steel ...

The leopards head, partial lion passant and the sovereign's head can be seen. This is a small label with approx. measurements of 1 1/2" in length ...

They made sterling wares from 1850 to about 1900 in Chicago. A retail or wholesale outlet was listed in New York for ...
