A beautiful square enameled rose compact by Dorset-Rex Fifth Avenue. This compact measures approx. 3 1/8" square. Before World War I it was not acceptable for a woman to powder her face in public, but by 1920 cosmetics had found their way into society. First it was the jewelers and then the cosmetic companies themselves began marketing loose powder compacts. Dorset & Rex merged in1951 dating this piece to that era. This Stratton bisque green jasperware powder compact measures 3 1/2" in diameter. It is in very good condition with no damage to the bisque green jasperware lid or any significant scratches to the gold-tone metal. The mirror inside is in very good condition. There is no powder left in the compact. The inside is marked with a pat. #764125. The back of the compact is incised with "Stratton // England".
