Beautiful yellow-green serpentine twists complement lovely crackled carnelian cylinders in this warm and striking necklace.

Often mistaken for jade, serpentine is softer and denser, but has the same natural feel. Once thought to protect against snake bites, serpentine is said to enhance self-confidence and dispel fear. Twelve oval twists are featured in this necklace.

Accenting the serpentine are five rounded carnelian cylinders. Carnelian dates back thousands of years. Ancient Egyptian nobility believed it helped souls pass to the next world, and so were often buried with it. It was used in the Middle East and in ancient Greece and Rome for signet rings, breastplates and amulets of courage. More recently it has been said to heal physical wounds and blood disorders. It is considered by some to inspire passion.

Bringing the whole necklace together are 16 antique copper beads, and a graceful scrolled copper toggle clasp. This 19.5-inch necklace can be worn traditionally, with the clasp behind the neck, or it can be worn in a more contemporary style with the claps featured at the front.
