This Weller Pottery Ollas water bottle was part of Weller's Utility Ware line. The idea for this gourd shaped bottle was brought to Weller by a customer who had seen one in France, though the style has been known in North Africa for centuries. The lower portion of the bottle is unglazed so that the water contents was absorbed into the clay, and the subsequent evaporation cooled the contents. Though not particularly efficient, the design is an old one and was quite popular and unique when Weller introduced it. It stands 12" tall. It is in very good condition with just a few nips on the lid as pictured--remarkable that it even survives. Still a great conversation piece and can still be used! It weighs 3 lbs.
