Victorian Beadwork Needlework for Pole Screen
Antiques : Textiles : Needlework & Beadwork
A very good Victorian banner worked with the most unusual needlework and outstanding beading. It is in remarkably good condition with scattered small bead loss here & there and it probably originally had tassels on the side which are not present now & most of the purple silk backing is gone. The body of the shield has a rich melon central cartouche surrounded by very large all beads leaves in blue/gray, clear & white on twisted vines of black & brown beads. The outer background is done in a peach/rust and a darker peach/rust accents the top. The original cord trim is all in place, twisted ropes of mauve, purple, black & white. As you can see, the multi colored fine silk fringe shows age. This is a wonderful panel that originally was a pole screen ( still has the tiny hooks on the top) but if you don't have the pole, it would be wonderful as a wall hanging or in a frame as it's a large one!
15" x 17.5" not counting the fringe
