The finest portrait painting on ivory wafer, signed M.H.Bly by miniature artist Morton.H.Bly (1876-1935) in the early 1900s ( his earlier works were signed with his full name ). Morton H. By was an important artist around the turn of the century. He painted very prominent persons of society from the golden age. The painting is housed in it's original oval frame with convex glass and I've not had it opened to see if the sitter is identified on the reverse. The quality of the work is outstanding ! You can see the brush strokes for each hair & lines in the face as well as the texture of the clothing. The scenic landscape background with a wooded area on the left and distant sky on the right.
