After some extensive research on this Lady's Opal Slide Watch Chain....i found out that women also wore them & not just men. The metal appears to be some sort of Gold Filled Metal. The opal is a small black opal fixed in the center of the rectangular slide which attches to a long chain that is placed over the head & worn. The slide does have full movement up and down the neck chain. I wish i had the watch that was attached which would be a real find. Circa 1902
