~~ Designs created using Tibetan, Trade, Vintage and Semi-Precious Beads ~~
The Sherpa are Buddhist herders from Tibet and Nepal. These beads, Sherpa Coral, worn by them, were made in the 17th and 18th centuries in imitation of coral. They are Tibetan origin. In the primitive societies of the Himalayan countries, the prized coral is thought to bring women strength and good luck. Only the wealthiest class could afford the true Italian coral so coral colored glass beads were frequently used. Traditionally, jewelry from Central Asia endows the owner with spiritual and protective properties.
Some of these beads have traveled many continents and had numerous owners. Small chips, corrosion, and pitting are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. The beads are all strung on a thin chain that connects to the bolder Brass Ox Rollo Chain.
The Sherpa Coral are 14mm. The side cones are 1" long. The Cylinder is 1.75". Necklace length is 17.25".
I am always happy to combine shipping and insurance on multiple items.
