This is a VERY RARE piece of 19th Century riveted “cut steel” jewelry. If you know EARLY jewelry than you will recognize the workmanship on this piece. This is NOT the late (turn of the century) cut steel that is all “one piece” and seen frequently on shoe & belt buckles from France & Germany… each one of the small faceted pieces (look like checkerboards under a 10X loupe) are individually riveted to the brass backing as are the large pieces top & btm and the triangular shaped ends on the Anchor.

19th Century Nautical jewelry is either Late Georgian or Early Victorian period, pre-1850... MEASURES a whopping 3 3/4 Inches Top to Btm. and a Max. of 2 3/4 Inches Across - definitely not for the 'faint of heart'. After more than a Century, Cut Steel Pin is in VERY GOOD CONDITION! Pinstem, Hinge & Unusual “C” Clasp securely mounted to reverse – all in fine working order. Minute rust to a couple of 'buttons' that is barely visible under magnification.
