These little angels are so sweet! They remind me of the little children in Christmas programs, sort of "into it" but not quite sure where they are to go, next. This plate is by Schmid Bros. of Randolph, Mass., and it is "The Heavenly Trio" by Berta Hummel. Berta originally crafted this design on a wood block so she could produce her own Christmas cards (1928). Schmid Bros. were commissioned by her mother to produce these plates, this one being issued in 1978, 8th edition.

The plate measures 7 3/4" wide and is free of chips, cracks or crazing. It comes with its own box and brochure, but the lining of the box has some foxing.

The scene depicts the three bearing gifts of music, light and presents. Such simple lines and vivid colors. The design seems to be a departure from many of the pieces Berta Hummel produced. I have other plates listed on Ruby Lane which I believe are from this series...The Sacred Journey and the Christmas Child. How neat they would be, displayed near a nativity scene.
