Schmid Collectible Plate, "Sacred Journey" by Berta Hummel, 1976 Issue

This bright design of "The Sacred Journey" was originally painted by Berta Hummel. Schmid Bros. of Randolph, Mass. were authorized by Berta's mother to issue it as part of a series. This plate is 6th in that series and was released in 1975. I presently have other plates which I believe are from this series listed on Ruby Lane, if you are trying to complete the group. They are precious.

This plate measures 7 3/4" wide and is free of chips, cracks or crazing. The original box and brochure are included. It is marked on the base with the history of the plate and has the numbers 177-105.

The colors are bright and cheery, although the subject is solemn. It is a departure from many of the other pieces Sister Hummel produced, in that the colors are vivid and the lines are clean and sharp. Every time I look at this plate, it reminds me of Christmas programs from the past where children acted out the story of Christmas.
