This 1988 cook book was issued by First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Mt. Pleasant is in the Southeastern corner of Iowa and is the home of Iowa Wesleyan College. As usual, the recipes in this cookbook are contributed by church members and friends or family members. Wow! This cookbook is so full of recipes and ideas, it is incredible. If you are looking for a recipe your mother or grandmother made, it's surely included. There are 856 pages, including the index, and recipes I hadn't thought of in years. This is "The American Woman's Cook Book" and it was issued in 1950. Jean Pare and her "Company's Coming" cookbooks seem to have a great following. Her cookbooks are published in Canada and there is a great variety. This "Company's Coming" is "150 Delicious Squares" which was published in 1981. It has every kind of bar cooky and some I'd call candy recipes you can imagine. The book consists of 152 pages and is spiral bound. For those bakers out there, don't miss this one!

I don't have a date for this cookbook, but it appears to be from the 1950s. For one, the ads appear to be around that period of time and the phone numbers are two or three digits. I would say the late 40s to early 50s. Keep in mind that this church still runs a tent kitchen at the Old Threshers' Reunion, which is a huge event each year. These church tents are well known for their fabulous meals, generous servings and reasonable prices. They use quality ingredients and put out a quality product. ...
