"Old King Cole was a merry old soul And a merry old soul was he; He called for his pipe, and he called for his bowl And he called for his fiddlers three."
Eulalie Banks (1895-1999) was an English-born writer, artist, illustrator and muralist who lived the majority of her long life in California. She is best-known for the over fifty children's books that she illustrated; including several that she also authored. Her artistic talents extended to painting nursery murals for Hollywood stars Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, and Ann Harding. She also created the much-admired murals in the boys & girls room at the old, now-demolished Santa Monica Library.
This colour plate is from a disbound children's picture story book published by the Platt & Munk Co. in 1937 and 1941. It is printed on glossy, coated paper and has unrelated text on the reverse. The colours of this charming, nostalgic print are bright and vibrant.
This vintage litho print measures 10" x 7 3/4" (approx.). It is in good condition with attendant signs of wear and use (a couple of surface blemishes) and is eminently suitable for framing. It would be perfect for a nursery, baby's room or child's room!
