These are genuine original magazine advertisements from the November 2, 1936 issue of Punch's Almanack for 1937.

This British, full-colour, vintage food ad features a picture of a pretty, female H & P (embroidered on her collar) worker holding one of the "Gay Christmas Tins... that are gayer inside!". She's displaying the Oval Violets Tin of assorted chocolate biscuits. Also presented here, in colourful detail, are the following cookies: Cocktail Varieties, Treasure Tin, Ride-A-Cock-Horse, and John O'Groats Shortbread. What a great reference for the vintage tin collector! The retail prices are included in the "old money", United Kingdom currency of shillings and pence.

Or if one prefers, the reverse features an ad for a couple of models of H.M.V. ("His Master's Voice") All-Wave radios. The illustration features a hand pointing to the USA on a globe, highlighting the possible reception of these wireless sets in Great Britain. There is an inset image of the familiar brand of Nipper the dog.

Many vintage ads can act as "time capsules", reflecting the styles and sensibilities of a particular era. Christmas ads, perhaps due to the traditional, "family" nature of the holiday, often evoke a stronger sense of nostalgia. They can stir childhood memories of simpler, more sentimental times.

This dated, 1930s advert measures 11 1/4" x 8 1/2" (approx.). This Thirties print ad is in good condition (the HMV ad is only fair as it's a back cover one with some soiling and more signs of wear) but this piece of English advertising memorabilia / ephemera is still suitable for framing - perhaps as a decorative holiday accent for your home.

Canada/USA Postage & Packing is $3.50 (Elsewhere to be determined). Multiple items purchased from SHARP OBJECTS may be combined for shipping purposes.
