Please Peruse Our Profferings Of Primarily Paper Pieces Of The Past - Vintage Ads, Postcards, Prints, Cards, Sheet Music, etc
St George Street is a long north-south arterial street in central Toronto. It extends from College Street through the main, downtown campus of the University of Toronto and north to the affluent residential area of The Annex and beyond.
This undivided back Valentines & Sons' Publishing Co. Ltd. postcard is numbered "100502". It was mailed in 1907 from Train No. 96(?) (with a railway / railroad post office cancellation / postmark) to a Mrs R.D. Bottum (?) in Potsdam, N.Y..
This postally-used post card is in very good condition with a few attendant signs of age and wear (e.g. blunted corners). The white "flash" which partially obscures the figure pushing the perambulator is part of the original printing process. We've seen this in other examples of this particular card (black & white and colourised versions). This piece of Edwardian-era ephemera is eminently suitable for framing or for collection in an album.
It should be of interest to collectors of "Old Toronto" or "Old Ontario" memorabilia .Those with an interest in genealogy who have traced their family's history to this part of the Province of Ontario (Upper Canada or Canada West prior to 1867) should also appreciate this little relic of the past. It would make a nice gift for the Local History / heritage buff or amateur genealogist who has an interest in York County.
