This vintage bookplate print is from an illustration by Clara Burd. This cute, full-colour picture depicts overalls-clad brothers, George and Donald Granger, leading Old Kit ("the farm horse...for a great many years) and Barney the colt from the barn stables. One of the kids is feeding Kit from a straw hat.
"'Wait,' George said, and, snatching off his battered hat, he filled it with oats and brought it back to Kit"
Clara Miller Burd was a New Jersey-born artist and illustrator active in the first half of the 20th century. She is best-known for the numerous children's books and magazine covers that she illustrated. She is also noted for the ecclesiastical stained glass windows that she designed for many churches.
This country-themed colour plate is from a disbound children's farm animals picture story book published by the Saalfield Publishing Company in 1928. It is printed on glossy, coated paper and is blank on the reverse. The colours of this charming, nostalgic print are bright and vibrant.
This vintage litho print measures 11 5/8" x 9 5/8" (approx.). (Its dimensions don't allow it to be completely accommodated by the scanner). It is in very good condition with little of the attendant signs of age and wear and is eminently suitable for framing. It would be perfect for a nursery, baby's room or child's room!
