SUBJECT: This Victorian, bookplate print depicts a 17th-Century, seasonal scene of a Yuletide celebration at a grand manor house. This steel engraving from a Henry Melville etching is a view of a baronial, banqueting hall from a high vantage point. There are bearded men in lace collars drinking at a dining table in the foreground, while other figures, in English Civil War-era period dress, are sitting in a huge inglenook fireplace behind, listening to a musician. To the right, a family is being greeted at the door, while festive greenery hangs from the ceiling.
CONDITION: It is in very good condition (complete w/ tissue guard) with little of the attendant signs of age and wear (i.e. minimal, faint foxing) and is eminently suitable for matting and framing.
