John, Baron Somers of Evesham (1651-1716) was an English jurist and statesman. He presided over the framing of the Bill of Rights in 1689. He subsequently held the offices of Solicitor-General, Attorney-General, Lord Keeper Of The Seal, and Lord Chancellor. He was forced to resign as Lord Chancellor in part for his support of the infamous pirate, Captain Kidd. Charles Seymour, Duke of Somerset (1662-1748) was a British statesman of great influence during the reign of Queen Anne and the early Georgian era. He was largely responsible for the Revolution of 1688 and the accession of George I in 1714 thus securing the Hanoverian dynasty. He was also known as "The Proud Duke" because of his arrogance.
