Hard-to-find (I have never encountered this particular piece before, nor do I see another one on Ruby Lane or eBay) Francisco TORTOLANI original huge dragon pendant necklace. Highly dimensional, fully detailed right down to the ominous-looking teeth, scales and claws. Antiqued gold-plated base metal with blackened finish back. The sculpted metal work is amazing!
This huge creature measures a whopping 6"L by 3 1/8" (at widest measurement). The necklace chains are attached and are approximately an adjustable 18 1/2"L. Fastens via a spring "O" ring.
Signed ŠTORTOLANI in script (older mark, not a reissue).
Fantastic vintage piece in great condition. No wear, just a fabulous necklace.
TORTOLANI began manufacture in the 1950's and closed in the 1970's. Careful attention was given to the figural designs. The fascinating question is "how did he incorporate such warmth to cold metal"? Amazing personality and uniqueness.
