What a gorgeous piece I have for you here! This very classically styled vase is glazed in the muted colors of which the Brothers Urbach were so fond. Alternating columns of warm honey brown bands with a criss-cross and floral design separate indented narrow panels of pale cream decorated with floral scrollwork glazed in dove gray, charcoal gray and tan. The wider central panels have a deep textured pattern made to mimic fine embroidery and sports a floral design in shades of rose, deep blue, greens, and purples. This is very subtly accented with fine lines of gilt. It stands on a muted gray-green base. The interior is lined with aqua. This was made by the Brothers Urbach in Turn-Teplitz, Austria. It dates to between 1882 and 1906. The Brothers Urbach produced very high quality majolica to compete with other continental manufacturers such as Wilhelm Schiller & Sons and fine English producers such as Minton. And this one certainly fits the bill! It measures 11 ½” tall and approximately 5” in diameter, not including the handles. This is clearly marked on the base with the Brothers Urbach raised cartouche and the impressed number 1322, as well as the letter M in gilt. It is in superb condition with its only issue being an old, and well-done, repair at the base. See the photo for details. Shipping weight: 3 lb. 12 oz. (Location: E4)
