I am thrilled to offer this gorgeous old French albino majolica artichoke serving plate. There are two of these plates available. An example of this plate in several different colorations can be seen on page 66 of Maryse Bottero’s book Artichauts et Asperges en Barbotine. This plate measures approximately 9 ¼” in diameter, and has a center well to hold the artichoke, a small side well to hold butter, and a larger well to hold the discarded leaves. It is marked with Gien’s underglaze black mark depicting a castle and the words GIEN, FRANCE. This mark was in use between 1960 and 1971. All available plates are in superb condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. There is gentle crazing appropriate to their age visible only under magnification, but it does not detract.
