Superb Old European Majolica Figural Tyrolean Man Humidor Tobacco Jar

I am very pleased to offer this superb example of a Victorian figural majolica humidor—in the guise of a man in Tyrolean garb. Similar pieces, no doubt made by the same manufacturer as this one, can be seen on page 47 of Jeffrey B. Snyder’s Marvelous Majolica. He states that these pieces represented “local color” around town. This is one of several pieces acquired from the collection of a noted Chicago collector and antique dealer who began his collection in the 1930’s. He measures 5 ¼” tall and approximately 4” in diameter. (This is only approximate because the base is not round.) The lid does not have a sponge hole. There are no marks on this, save the numbers 667, 6, 2, and another 2 impressed into the base. His condition is excellent with its only issue being some small nicks on the brim of his hat and one on the inside lip of the humidor itself. See the photos for details. Shipping weight: 2 lb. 6 oz.
