Exquisite Antique Austrian Majolica J. Dressler Egg Server Plate

What a treat I have for you here! This is precisely the sort of thing for which Julius Dressler, is rightly famous—specialty food service pieces of majolica . His are, without a doubt the most fanciful and fun, and this one is no exception. In the form of a stylized leaf glazed in shades of green with a chocolate brown twig-form handle wrapped with ivy and cotton candy pink wells for the eggs and condiments—it’s a truly eye-catching piece. This was made by Julius Dressler at Biela, Bohemia in Austria sometime between 1885 and 1910, probably around 1900. A similar server can be seen on page 62 of D. Michael Murray’s reference book, European Majolica. I have included a photo of the page for those who don’t have access to the book. This measures 10 ¼” long, 8” wide, and approximately 4” tall. It is clearly marked with Dressler’s impressed “Tower-JBD” mark as well as the numbers 2920. It is in excellent condition with its only issues being an old repair to the handle and 2 minor chips to the rim. See the photos for details. Shipping weight: 2 lb. 11 oz. (Location: MB1)
