I love these antique Chinese Export porcelain bird figures with majolica-like glaze that were so popular around the turn-of-the-century. I’ve seen any number of different birds done in this style including peacocks, pigeons, roosters, geese, and ducks, but this is one of the better, and more unusual, ones I’ve encountered. These were produced in China for the Western market at the turn-of-the-century, and show a decidedly “Art Nouveau” style to them. I see the rooster with some frequency, but rarely do I find it in the gorgeous Famille Verte color scheme—usually I see them in turquoise! This example stands approximately 9 ¾” tall. He is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. There is an impressed number 17 and what looks to be an illegible mark beside the number. See the photos for details.
