I am pleased to offer this beautiful—and early—Chinese Export Porcelain Famille Rose bowl in the traditional lotus shape. This features a gorgeous bird…(I’m guessing a phoenix?) with floral and foliage décor surrounding it done in the traditional Famille Rose palette. The interior is glazed in turquoise. It is clearly marked on the base with the Tongzhi mark, which dates this to between 1862 and 1874. I am deeply indebted to the superb reference and research website maintained by Jan-Erik Nilsson for all the information I’ve provided here. It is in superb condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is a very small and tight hairline just to the right of the bird, but it is in the exterior glaze only and does not penetrate through the body to the interior.
