This stunning majolica candlestick was made by the Brothers Urbach in Turn-Teplitz, Austria. It is one of a pair, so if you like this, be sure to see my item #RL0507078 to see his lovely mate. This dates to between 1882 and 1906. The Brothers Urbach produced very high quality majolica to compete with other continental manufacturers such as Wilhelm Schiller & Sons and fine English producers such as Minton. The detail on the face and clothing of the boy is absolutely magnificent. I’ve included lots of photos in the listing so you can appreciate the superb detail in this piece of work. It stands 11 ¾” tall on an approximately 4” square base. It bears the Brothers Urbach stamp, BU, impressed on the base. It also bears the impressed number 979 and the handwritten number 17. This makes a very dramatic statement anywhere it’s placed! The candlestick is in excellent condition with its only issue being an old small chip on the drip-catcher and a fleabite on the cloak the boy carries. Neither of these is very apparent. I have included closeup detailed photos of this below. There are firing lines in the back of the tree trunk, but theses do not penetrate the piece and they occurred during manufacture. Shipping weight: 3 lb. 8 oz. (Location: G3)
