This exquisite English majolica teapot was made by Brownhills Pottery Company of Tunstall, England sometime between 1872 and 1896. It features a Japanesque motif of bamboo, blossoms, and foliage glazed in shades of caramel, honey, pink, and blue-green, accented with black. All this on a delicately stippled rich cream ground. The teapot measures 7” tall and 9” across from spout to handle. It is clearly marked with Brownhill Pottery Company’s impressed B.P. Co. mark, which was in use between 1872 and 1896, after which Salt Brothers took over the firm. It also bears the handwritten numbers 1469 and H in red. It is in superb condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines, flakes, or repairs. It doesn’t appear to have been used for tea, as there is no tea-staining to the interior. This pattern can be seen in Marilyn Karmason & Joan Stacke’s reference book, Majolica: A Complete History and Illustrated Survey, on page 119. Shipping weight: 4 lb. 2 oz. (Location: B6)
