I am very pleased to offer these splendid 8” diameter majolica plates by the Choisy-le-Roi faience factory of Choisy-le-Roi, France, which is credited with making some of the most delicately rendered majolica in all of France. They, with Sarreguemines, Luneville, St. Clement, Clairefontaine, and Frie-Onnaing (among many others) made France justly famous in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s as a world-class producer of majolica. These plates feature three luscious apples glazed in rich shades of tangerine and cherry red flanked by bright green leaves are separated by chocolate brown twigs that cross in the center, giving them a very Art Nouveau flavor. Each plate is clearly marked with Choisy-Le-Roi’s black backstamp. One plate bears the first mark shown, while the others bear the second. As mentioned, each plate measures 8” in diameter and is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. There is very mild rub on a couple spots on the rim, probably from a plate hanger. These date to between the early 1860’s and 1910. Narrowing the date further, I would date these to between 1900 and 1910, given the décor. Choisy-Le-Roi quit producing majolica in 1910, so they cannot be later than that. Shipping weight: 2 lb. 5 oz (Location: MB1)
Please feel free to email me for detail photos of each additional available plate.
