I am very pleased to offer this gorgeous Secessionist ceramic pottery vase made between 1919 and 1929 by Kunsttöpferei und Majolikafabrik Carl Gebauer (Carl Gebauer Art Pottery & Majolica Factory) in Bürgel, Thüringen, a small town near Leipzig. Carl Gebauer began as a partner at Neumann & Gebauer in 1884 and then started his own factory in 1892. He received numerous awards and acclaim for his work which he exhibited throughout Germany. After WWII, Bürgel fell into the newly formed East Germany and Gebauer’s factory was taken into state ownership. Talent wasn’t lacking throughout the Gebauer family. Carl’s brother, Paul, was also a well-known ceramicist and his nephew, Walter, became justly famous for his glazes & technique, and became known as one of the originators of the style “Mid-Century Modern”. This vase measures 6 ¼” tall, with a deep tan ground with raised piping in pale buff, dark cobalt blue, white, rose, and green to create a floral & geometric Art Nouveau motif. It is marked on the base with the impressed number 870 on the rim, as well as the word Germany. The rim impressed ID’s are recognized as Gebauer. It is in superb condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. Shipping weight: 1 lb. 11 oz. (Location: A1)
