This superb faience Art Deco vase was made by Henri Delcourt, a French pottery at Boulogne-sur-Mer which is a large harbor in the north of France, about 15 miles from the town of Desvres. This piece dates to circa 1925. Delcourt was a banker until he went into business with Jules Verlingue-the soon-to-be-owner of Quimper's HB pottery factory. Delcourt purchased the Boulogne factory when Verlingue acquired the Quimper factory in 1920 and his operations continued until 1935. Henri Delcourt's Boulogne factory was renowned for its outstanding faience and Art Deco ceramics which could be found in all the high-end stores in Paris. His work is often compared to that of other famous pottery studios of the time, like Argilor, Etling, Robj, Aladin, and Elte.

This lovely vase features a black grid on an eggshell colored background with Art Deco style pine cones in shades of green, chocolate brown, and yellow on the front. A narrow collar of yellow accents the black bands on the neck. It stands 4” tall and 3 ˝” in diameter. It is marked on the base with the words FIRESIDE, FRANCE as well as the number 138-323 and the Roman numeral XIII. Though this lacks Delcourt’s usual HD initials, this is without question his work, a companion piece to this vase can be seen on page 286 of Francois Piton’s reference book, “C’est du Boulogne”. I have included a photo of the page for those who don’t have access to the book. This is in superb condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines, repairs. There is a slight bit of roughness on the rim that can be discerned with the fingertips. Shipping weight: 1 lb. 8 oz. (Location: B2)
