SOLD Lovely Antique Czech Majolica B. Bloch Eichwald Covered Basket & Fruit Casserole
This fantastic covered dish was made by Bernard Bloch at Eichwald, after World War One when the German state of Bohemia was incorporated into the new country of Czechoslovakia. It is likely from the early 1920’s. The dish is made in the form of a wicker basket glazed in warm tan with a lid of figural fruits and nuts glazed in gorgeous purples, reds, pinks, yellows, and greens. A plum forms the handle of the lid. It measures 7” in diameter and 4 ½” tall with the lid in place (2 ½” tall without the lid) It is marked with the Czechoslovakia in a raised cartouche and the number 2240, as well as the word “Erphila” in brown underglaze stamp. In his book European Majolica, D. Michael Murray identifies this Czechoslovakia cartouche as one of Eichwald’s, dating from after World War One. The bowl is in excellent condition with its only issues being a glaze flake on one of the scallops of the rim and one old and well-done repair to the rim. See the photos below for details. Shipping weight: 3 lb. 14 oz. (Location: MB1)
